Two Welding Processes
Foyer Général's welding services include two different methods applicable to all types of metals. The first is called TIG welding: it is an arc welding process with a non-fusible electrode, in the presence of a filler metal if necessary. TIG is the acronym for Tungsten Inert Gas. Tungsten is the electrode and Inert Gas refers to the plasma-forming gas used. TIG welding is a high-quality technique for welding thin metal layers. It produces a stable arc but requires great dexterity for the welder.
The second method is MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, also known as GMAW according to American standards. This semi-automatic process isolates the molten metal by continuously injecting inert gas onto the arc, thus avoiding the use of a protective slag against oxidation. Argon and helium are the most commonly used gases.
